ZERO School Buses in Our Region Run on Electric.
The evidence is clear, electric school buses help protect kids - whose lungs and brains are still developing - from the dangers of pollution. Yet across our 9-county region, the diesel school bus continues to reign.
Governor Hochul has committed all of New York’s school districts to a 2035 target for school bus fleet to go all-electric. Here’s why.
The Case for Electric School Buses
School buses today run on diesel, a fossil fuel that has been shown to harm human health, increasing the risks of illnesses like asthma, bronchitis, lung cancer, stroke, and heart disease.
Children are more vulnerable, since their lungs and brains are still developing.
Studies have even found that the pollution from diesel affects students’ test scores and school attendance.
Low-income communities and BIPOC communities are already bearing more of the health burden of air pollution.
Electric school buses would prevent the release of diesel exhaust, protecting kids’ lungs and create a healthier environment in and around the bus.
Parents, caregivers, advocates and school districts are leading the effort for electric school buses in communities across the country. Are we ready to get started in the Genesee/Finger Lakes region?
