Federal Executive Order Leverages Significant Buying Power to Fuel Beneficial Electrification

electric vehicle movement

President Joe Biden signed an executive order on Wednesday, Dec 8 that puts a timeline against the federal government’s net-zero carbon emissions targets.

The plan puts in motion the transformation of 300,000 federal buildings and a fleet of 600,000 vehicles to consume carbon-free fuels by 2050. The plan includes milestones such as the use of 100 percent clean energy by 2030, light-duty vehicles purchased will be zero-emissions by 2027, and the requirement for all new federal car and truck purchases to be zero-emissions by 2035.

Because of its huge $650 billion in annual purchasing power for goods and services, this move will fuel the clean energy market growth and make it easier for others to engage in beneficial electrification.
